pGNOSIS was at the just concluded GIS Researchers in AFRICA (GISR) conference held at Bon Stratton Hotel Asokoro Abuja on the 23rd and 24th of November 2017.
We facilitated a workshop titled “OpenGeo Suite and QGIS for Apps Development”.
The workshop was aimed at exposing the participants of the conference to the power of Open Source GIS as a tool of economic empowerment. We demonstrated with open source software such as
- QGIS (A GIS desktop software)
- QField(A mobile field data collection app based on QGIS)
- PostGIS( an extension of PostgreSQL database)
- GeoServer(a web mapping and geodata application server )
Following this workshop, we believe that participants now possess the knowledge and skills that will enable them to make a meaningful impact locally or globally using open source geospatial tools which significantly eliminate the limitations of proprietary software licenses and access to source codes. Therefore, we look forward to the emergence of geospatial consultants who will create geospatial-based solutions across various local communities in Nigeria.
