QGIS is a cross-platform free and open source desktop geographic information systems application that provides data viewing, editing, and analysis capabilities.
This class introduces the student to QGIS. After a brief introduction to QGIS, you’ll learn how to install the software on your computer and become familiar with the user interface. Next, you’ll learn how to work with vector GIS data including familiarizing yourself with the various supported GIS data formats, learn how to use the vector properties dialog, perform attribute and spatial queries, create and edit data, style your layers, and work with data projections.
You’ll also learn how to use the basic QGIS tools including map composer, save and restore projects, identify and select features, use the overview panel, edit/view/search attributes, perform feature labeling, measure, add annotation and rendering, and use bookmarks. Creating and printing quality maps is also of obvious importance to any GIS professional, so you’ll learn how to create and print maps in QGIS.
In our advanced section of the course, you’ll learn how to implement geoprocessing operations, use common plugins including DB Manager, GDALTools, GPS tool, Heatmap, MapServer Export, and more. Finally, you’ll learn how to perform spatial analysis using QGIS.
This course is for those who wish to learn how to use QGIS on a day to day GIS operations.
